Farming can be sustainable and profitable

Find out more about how to build resilience into your business

Adapting to Climate Change

The latest climate change projections show that Scotland is expected to experience milder and wetter winters, hotter and drier summers, and an increase in extreme weather event intensity. It is important that farm businesses actively consider climate change adaptation to minimise potential risks and where possible benefit from any opportunities that may present themselves.

Improving Farm Profitability

Improving productivity with small or low cost changes in management can lead to increased profitability and farm business resilience, alongside reduced carbon emissions. Analysing data from a farm carbon footprint can offer guidance on areas where improvements can be made and we’ve collated information across the five key action areas for farm businesses.

Innovation

Increasing farm sustainability and resilience is key to securing a future for the next generations. Making changes, whether big or small, can often help to find ‘a better way of doing things’, improving both productivity and profitability. Sometimes the best innovations come from seeing how others work, taking their ideas and modifying to fit your system.

Regenerative Agriculture

Regenerative Agriculture is a set of farm management principles which put soil health at the centre of agriculture practise. Putting soil health at the centre of farming practices has many benefits including ecosystem services such as water filtration, nutrient cycling and increased biodiversity.
